Tong Oromo Lyec (The Spear has Overwhelmed the Elephant)

The play revolves around the predicament of Ocet Maratino, a Lango elder’s whose two twin sons Opio RPG and Ocen Commando end up in the rebel camp and in the army respectively. The ideological divide between the two sons plays out in the constant beating of their father whom the rebels accuse of hiding his army son Ocen, meanwhile the army also beat the same father for hiding the rebel, Opio RPG. When the cattle rustlers eventually invade his home, his cattle are taken and the rustlers beat Ocet Maratino severely, he decides to hang himself. The play tackles the failure of the African post colony and its impact on ordinary people.

Oyeyeng Theatre Group partnered with the Royal Netherlands Embassy in 1998-1999 to show this play extensively in the Acholi subregion, especially Kitgum District through the Peace and Good Governance drama project. The play was performed in primary schools and secondary schools, as well as in a refugee camp in Kiryandongo District.
